It never rains, it pours
Well another plant has decided it wants to join the flowering party.
This plant was labeled from the supplier as Cryptocoryne blassii.
I only happened to notice the flower stem by chance. I would have been very annoyed to have missed it as I have not yet seen this one flower.
Here are some pics of the flower so far. I will add more once it opens

Crypt Flower!!!!
Another plant has started to produce a flower.
According to the supplier, this plant is C. Beckettii.
Everything about the plant so far agrees with that so lets see what the flower brings.

C. Becketti flower is normally described as a yellow/brownish green coloured limbe with a brown or red throat.
As can be seen in the pics this looks like its correct species.

Submersed Crypts growing

Crypts are growing great.
A pair of cockatoos are now at home in this tank and the female laid eggs within six hours or being released. Too bad the male is still too young.

New Crypt Tank
So today, the crypts that I ordered arrived today.
The new setup is a 90 X 30 X 30 cm tank, that will be planted in mainly crypts and and a few other slow growing plants.
The substrate is Daltons Aquatic mix(a clay based mix) with a top layer of Daltons Propagating Sand(inert course sand).

It looks really ugly at the moment!

A side on shot.

Crypt Flower

The first of my Crypts has flowered.Cryptocoryne wenditii
Although not the most attractive of flowers but an interesting one at that.
I have read that crypt flowers can be pollinated by encouraging wingless fruit flies to climb down into the flower.Must try that one day.
to be continued….
